Srinivasan Named EATCS Fellow

The European Association for Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS) has recognized a noted researcher in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) for his significant contributions to theoretical computer science.

Aravind Srinivasan, a professor of computer science, has been named to the 2017 class of EATCS Fellows. He is amongst four EATCS members selected for this honor.

EATCS Fellows are chosen by the EATCS Fellow selection committee based on nominations received from its research community.

EATCS specifically recognized Srinivasan for his, “major contributions to algorithms, the uses of randomization in algorithms, randomness in networks, and the real-world applications of these topics.”

Srinivasan is also an ACM Fellow and an IEEE Fellow. He serves as editor-in-chief of ACM Transactions on Algorithms, managing editor for Theory of Computing, associate editor for Networks.

Srinivasan received his undergraduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and his doctorate from Cornell University, both in computer science. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and at DIMACS. Additionally, Srinivasan has worked in industrial research at Bell Labs.

The EATCS Fellows Program was established by the association in 2014 to recognize outstanding EATCS members for their scientific achievements in the field of theoretical computer science.
