V.S. Subrahmanian delivers the keynote address at the Computer Society of India's Annual Convention in Kolkata, India
Professor V.S. Subrahmanian delivered the keynote address at the Computer Society of India's Annual Convention (CSI 2012) held in Kolkata, India. He spoke on "Intelligent Infrastructure: International Security and Beyond".
Abstract of the talk:
In the past, the term “intelligent infrastructure” primarily focused on intelligent methods to manage computing infrastructure. This talk presented a significantly broader vision: intelligent infrastructure represents the infrastructure needed to monitor the state of a wide variety of “traditional infrastructures” ranging from roads and bridges on the one hand to financial institutions and national security on the other. By leveraging the rapid proliferation of cell phones, cheap cameras and sensors, instant messaging, social media, and advanced image, text, and video analytics, it is now possible to get millions of inputs in real-time and to use these inputs for a wide variety of applications. Dr. Subrahmanian also described some of the technologies needed to realize this vision, some of the advances made to date in these technologies, and described its applications to security issues (e.g. counter-terrorism) as well as applications in other industries.
