UMIACS Faculty at the Forefront in the Next Chapter on MOOCs
Jan 22, 2014
Several faculty in UMIACS are taking a lead role in expanding the University of Maryland's involvement in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
Adam Porter, Jonathan Katz and Michael Hicks are all involved with team-taught MOOCs related to computer science—Porter with a course specializing in Android development, and Katz and Hicks with a MOOC that specializes in cybersecurity.
“MOOCs are exciting to the University of Maryland, not only because they demonstrate our excellence in so many areas, but because they also help us learn how to better take advantage of technology to improve our on-campus courses,” says Professor Ben Bederson, special advisor to the Provost on technology and educational transformation and a longtime member in UMIACS.
