Samir Khuller named Chair of CS
Samir Khuller has been appointed Chair of the Department of Computer Science effective July 1, 2012. Samir has been a member of UMIACS for over two decades. He has maintained an active research program funded by NSF, Google, and c3logic. He is best known for developing algorithms for approximately solving combinatorial optimization problems. Samir served as Associate Chair for Graduate Education where he helped to shape the graduate program through initiatives such as funding for conferences, summer fellowships, and the recruitment and admission of high quality students. He has been a terrific mentor and has excelled in nurturing high school students. Samir was named a University of Maryland Distinguished Scholar-Teacher for his effective teaching and outstanding research.
