Resnik Appointed to NORC Committee

Philip Resnik, a professor of computer science with appointments in UMIACS and linguistics, was recently appointed a member of the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) Advisory Committee on Statistics, Machine Learning, and High Performance Computing.

NORC at the University of Chicago is one of the oldest not-for-profit, academic research organizations in the U.S., and one of the largest independent social research organizations. Among its many notable projects, the General Social Survey (GSS) is the second most frequently analyzed source of information for the social sciences in the U.S., after the U.S. Census.

The committee will advise NORC's president and executive council on the future of social science research, especially on the principal tools of such research, including statistical methodology, machine learning methodology, the hardware and software of advanced technology, and other technical matters related to the design, collection and analysis of data.
