NSF Supports New Research in Robust Intelligence by Boyd-Graber and Daumé
Sep 10, 2013
Two UMIACS researchers have received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance research in machine learning algorithms that can “think on their feet.”
Jordan Boyd-Graber, in the iSchool, and Hal Daumé III, computer science, are developing algorithms that can anticipate future input and react accordingly, providing more immediate or incremental responses to queries.
One application might be the simultaneous translation of foreign language.
The three-year, $500,000 NSF award is part of the foundation’s Robust Intelligence program.
