Two mobile apps developed by David Jacobs, a professor of computer science with an appointment in UMIACS, were featured in a special Washington Post Magazine section that highlighted things to see and do in Rock Creek Park.
Leafsnap is a mobile field guide for identifying trees by snapping a photo of a leaf; Birdsnap is a similar app for identifying birds in the wild.
Jacobs developed both apps in collaboration with researchers at Columbia University and the Smithsonian Institution.
