Mihai Pop leads metagenomic assembly effort for the Human Microbiome Project data sets.
Jun 14, 2012
Mihai Pop led a team of some 25 researchers from UMD, the Baylor College of Medicine, Broad Institute, Washington University in St. Louis, J. Craig Venter Institute, and Los Alamos National Laboratory in conducting a major step in the microbe gene sequencing process known as metagenomic assembly for the Human Microbiome Project. This is featured in two papers in Nature appearing today:
- A framework for human microbiome research
- Structure, function and diversity of the healthy human microbiome
This work has also been featured in a Washington Post article.
