HCIL Students Win ASSETS’13 Best Paper Award

A paper authored by a team of graduate students from the Human Computer Interaction Laboratory (HCIL), won the “Best Paper Award” at the prestigious ASSETS 2013 conference in Seattle.

The paper’s lead author is Kotaro Hara, a doctoral student in computer science, whose adviser is Jon Froehlich, an assistant professor in computer science and member of HCIL and UMIACS.

ASSETS is the premier forum for accessible computing research that aims to benefit people with disabilities and older adults.

The paper introduces a new method of data collection using online crowdsourcing and Google Street View to address the challenges faced by visually impaired bus riders in identifying bus stop locations.
