Elaine Shi Named 2014 Sloan Research Fellow
Elaine Shi, an assistant professor of computer science with appointments in UMIACS and the Maryland Cybersecurity Center, was just named a Sloan Research Fellowship recipient for 2014.
Shi joins 126 early-career scientists recognized by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for their potential to contribute fundamentally significant research to a wider academic community. Each Fellow is awarded a two-year $50,000 grant to support their research interests.
“Elaine has impressed us with her commitment to research, scholarship and service since she arrived in 2012. We are thrilled she is getting broader recognition for her exemplary work,” says Amitabh Varshney, director of UMIACS.
Shi’s research spans a wide range of topics, including computation on encrypted data, privacy-preserving data mining, system security, sensor network and vehicular network security, usable authentication, secure storage systems, and more. She has published more than 40 scholarly publications, and her work has received more than 2700 citations.
Shi joins three other UMIACS faculty recognized as a Sloan Research Fellows: Bobby Bhattacharjee, Michael Cummings and Bonnie Dorr.
