De Floriani Named Editor-in-Chief of TVCG Journal

Leila De Floriani, a visiting professor in UMIACS, was just named editor-in-chief of IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG), considered the foremost scholarly journal in the field.

A noted expert in geometric and topological modeling, De Floriani will now provide editorial oversight to the TVCG journal, which is published monthly and focuses on cutting-edge computer graphics and visualization techniques, systems, software, hardware, and user interface issues.

"Leila brings considerable experience and expertise to her new role, not only as a scientist, but also as a visionary leader and passionate educator who is always willing to work with others to advance research and new knowledge," says Amitabh Varshney, director of UMIACS.

De Floriani's research at UMIACS has focused on multiresolution modeling, geometric algorithms and data structures for applications to scientific data visualization, solid modeling, geographic information systems and computer vision.
