Dana Nau, professor of computer science and UMIACS, was part of an interdisciplinary team whose latest research was published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B, a highly prestigious academic journal.
Nau collaborated with UMD psychologist Michelle Gelfand to study the evolution of third-party punishment, where a person or party is punished for violation of social norms by an outside observer who is not directly affected by the violation.
Nau, with two of his former doctoral students—Ryan Carr and UMD Postdoctoral Researcher Patrick Roos—built a mathematical model that incorporated hypotheses based on cross-cultural social organizational psychology.
